ordn — Ordinals

ordn (Ordinals) replaces the letters following a figure with forms that mark an ordinal number. For example, 2o becomes 2º, an abbreviation for secundo.

There is one exception: the numero sign (№, U+2116). The specification treats it as a ligature of N and o, but requires it to be accessed through ordn.

It is a separate feature from the frac family that forms fractions, but it belongs alongside them as one of the features handling the typesetting around figures.

The general case of ordinals is determined by surrounding context, so it is written with Lookup Type 6. The numero sign exception is a ligature that merges N, o, and period into a single glyph, so it is written with Lookup Type 4.
