zero — Slashed Zero

zero (Slashed Zero) replaces the figure 0 with a form that has a diagonal slash through its counter.

In condensed designs especially, it can be difficult to distinguish 0 from capital O when capitals and lining figures are mixed. This feature makes them easier to tell apart, as when setting labels.

The specification defines zero as applying only to lining figures, which makes it mutually exclusive with the oldstyle-figures feature, onum. It is often combined with tnum (Tabular Figures), for aligning columns of digits, and with lnum (Lining Figures), for use alongside capitals.
